One of the most listened-to episode from our original podcast... is coming back.

Hey,

When we first launched our Finnish podcast, I had no idea which episode would resonate most with new parents.

Would it be birth?

Sleep?

Feeding?

It wasn't.

The episode parents returned to again and again was about something much simpler.

Those first weeks at home with a newborn.

Looking back, it makes perfect sense.

You spend months preparing for birth.

Then suddenly you're home, holding your baby, wondering if what you're experiencing is normal.

The first full season of The Tiny Big Joys Podcast will be dedicated to the first year with a baby, and one topic that was extremely popular in our original podcast: those first weeks at home with a newborn. We knew we had to bring that conversation to our English audience too.

Here are five things parents took away from the original episode.

"Freeze more food than you think you'll need."

I still remember how surprised I was by how difficult it was to find time to cook.

One of the simplest tips from the episode was to fill your freezer before your baby arrives.

Future you will be incredibly grateful.

"You don't have to say yes to every visitor."

Those first weeks are about getting to know your baby.

It's okay to protect your time and welcome people when it feels right for you.

"A messy house doesn't mean you're failing."

One of the hardest lessons for me was accepting that the dishes could wait.

Holding my baby couldn't.

These first weeks pass more quickly than they feel in the moment. Hold them close, soak up the cuddles, and know that you're giving them exactly what they need.

"Your newborn probably won't have a routine."

If your baby wants to feed all evening...

that doesn't automatically mean something is wrong.

Your baby isn't trying to make life difficult. They're simply doing what newborns are designed to do: stay close.

"Find your people."

The support you need most often comes from someone who had their baby just a few weeks before you.

This conversation has stayed with me for years, which is exactly why we're bringing it back as part of our new podcast season.

And this time, we'll be joined by NHS midwife and lactation consultant Miranda to explore those first weeks with a newborn through the questions parents are asking today.

If you've already been through those early days, I'd love to hear from you.

What do you wish someone had told you before you brought your baby home?

And if you're expecting:

What would you love to know about those first days and weeks with your newborn?

Just send us an email from here. Your question might help another new parent feel a little less alone.
