Hi there,
Like so many women, I spent a long time carrying a lot of fear around the idea of giving birth. We see it portrayed in movies as a dramatic medical emergency, and it's easy to internalize that anxiety before we even experience it ourselves.
But when on my third trimester I finally slowed down and actually prepared for it, everything changed for me. My labor ended up lasting 38 hours, but instead of being terrifying, it turned out to be an incredibly empowering experience.
That shift in perspective had a massive influence on me. It’s a big part of the reason why I wanted to start this podcast in the first place, and it’s exactly why I’m so excited about today's conversation.
The fourth episode of our Pilot Series is live, and it’s a reassuring look at how we can step into birth with confidence instead of anxiety.
🎧 Episode 4: Your Body Knows How to Birth – You Just Have to Prepare
Guest: Anne Margolis (Certified Nurse Midwife, Holistic Practitioner, and Author)
In this episode, our host Annabella sits down with Anne to explore what it really means to prepare for birth. Anne brings over 30 years of experience and has personally attended more than 1,000 births. Together, they discuss how mothers can move away from a culture of fear and back toward trusting their own biological wisdom.
What we're diving into the following and more:
· The OB vs. Midwife Paradigm: Understanding the distinct difference in training and perspective between an obstetrician (trained as a surgeon for high-risk complications) and a midwife (who views healthy pregnancy and birth as a natural, physiologic process).
· Decoupling Birth and Fear: How to actively rewire your mindset if you have spent your life viewing birth as a looming medical emergency, shifting your perspective toward trust and active physical and mental preparation.
· Active Mental Mapping: Why modern birth preparation is about unlocking practical physical and psychological tools so you can stay calm, focused, and completely anchored when active labor begins.
· Protecting Your Birth Bubble: Practical tips for maintaining your autonomy, and keeping external noise or clinical interference outside your space.
· The Physiology of Gravity: How upright positions, movement, and working with gravity can fundamentally alter your labor experience, ensuring your pelvis opens optimally to let your baby fit.
A Note from myself: Become an Early Reader of My Book!
My own experiences with birth, along with the questions I’ve spent lot of time exploring with experts through events I organized for pregnant people and podcast I hosted previously in Finland, completely transformed how I view early motherhood. It's what inspired my original parenting platform in Finland, and now, I’m wrapping up a new project that is close to my heart.
I am currently finalizing The Tiny Big Joys book, and it is officially launching on June 23rd!
This is a warm, honest companion for pregnancy and birth where I share parts of my own journey that I’ve never spoken about publicly before, alongside conversations from the most beloved episodes of the original podcast series, including insights from midwives and experts to help you prepare for birth.
Because this community is the heart of everything we do, I am looking for a small group of pre-readers to get an advance digital copy.
If you are currently expecting, preparing to welcome another baby, or just passionate about this space, I would be so grateful for your support. All I ask is that you read it over the next few weeks and be willing to share your honest feedback and an Amazon review on our launch date (June 23rd) if you enjoyed the reading.
👉 Want to be an early reader? Just reply directly to this email with "I'm in!" and we will send over the details.
